Commonly asked questions.

What is included in the groom?

Explore and social time to reassure your dog before we start, warm bath and shampoo and condition, hand dried, combed out, cut out fur between pads, coat styled, toenails trimmed, sanitation area tended to, ears cleaned, perfume/cologne applied, chill time & treats (if allowed).

But my dog only needs a bath?

That's great! Many dogs do need a bath between grooms, and others only need a bath. I am happy to bath your dog, including shampoo & conditioning treatments, coat hand dried and brushed out and perfume/cologne applied if required - we will always check nails at every visit and trim if required.

What is used to get my dog looking and smelling so good?

There has been extensive research and testing done over the years to improve the quality of grooming products. I have sourced the best products on the market and use specialist shampoos to suit individual coat needs. I also do my best to use the most natural products possible which do not contain any harmful chemicals.

Do I need an appointment?

It is advisable as there can be up to a three week wait for an appointment. I will always do my best to accommodate you, so please call on 07875 123848.

It's my first appointment, what happens?

There is 2 hours free parking on Warner Street where we are and please arrive promptly for your appointment, with your dog on a lead. On your first visit I will need your dog's vaccination, microchip, any special requirements or health issues and vet details for my record card. Please allow yourself an extra 10-15 minutes for drop off when you come for the first time to allow your dog to familiarise themselves with the new surroundings, while we chat - I can't proceed with the groom without a completed record card for insurance purposes.

My dog's coat is very matted, what can you do?

Some breeds have coats that are very high maintenance and if not brushed daily can form matts, which become very difficult to remove and if left untouched can cause your dog great discomfort. These matts pull on the skin and can become infected, causing your dog to be a prisoner in its own fur. Small matt removal can be done at no charge; however, heavy matts will take me extra time to remove and will incur an extra charge. In some cases, it is not possible to remove matts without causing your dog extreme discomfort and shaving out is the only remaining option. If this needs to happen I will speak with you before proceeding, we can then discuss options to make sure that your dog doesn't become matted again.

How long does the groom last?

This usually takes around 1.5 to 2 hours, however, factors like coat length/condition, behaviour, size of your dog, health conditions, can make the time vary from client to client. I will text 15 mins before the groom is finished, but due to the above, cannot guarantee a set amount of time, as I'm sure you'll understand and I want to make sure I do the best job I can for you.

How much will the groom cost?

Without seeing your dog I can give you an estimate based on breed of dog, but will need to assess the dog's coat condition, temperament, and the style you require. Some styles can take much longer than others. Hand stripping and matted coats require extra work and this is reflected in the price due to the time necessary to achieve the best results.

I have a puppy, when can it be groomed?

Once the pup has had two sets of vaccinations, grooming can start as soon as possible. This helps to let the pup become acquainted with the salon environment, the different smells and noises such as dryers, clippers, other dogs.
Please be aware pups cannot be clipped before they are a minimum of 6 months old.

Do you muzzle dogs?

We prefer not to and would rather build up trust with the dog. That said, dogs who show signs of aggression or biting/licking at the clippers or scissors will have to be muzzled for both their safety and mine.

Can I stay during the groom?

Most dogs behave much better without their owners there and it is extremely important that we develop trust with your dog. We will be happy to show you around my salon when you come for your appointment or before you book if you would like to arrange a visit in advance. Please be assured that if a difficulty with a dog arises you will be called immediately.

My vet gave me a shampoo, can that be used?

Yes. I also have medicated shampoos, which I highly recommend for dogs with any skin complaints.

What if my dog has fleas?

If your dog has fleas on arrival I will reschedule your appointment to allow you to have the fleas treated. We can't risk the health of other pets in our care, so if we uncover fleas during a groom which were not visible on first inspection, we will wash the dog with a flea repellent shampoo. There will also be an additional charge for this.

Do you groom larger breeds?

Yes indeed. Size and coat type will influence the timescale, but this can be discussed prior to booking in.
